Blood Groups

A glance at the table of contents of the British Medical Bulletin on Blood Groups reveals the complexity of the subject. It is a credit to the editor that he assembled a group of authors who not only know what to say but how to say it. This volume, short and to the point, provides a review of the newer developments in immunohematology which is suitable for students and practicing physicians alike. It consists of 15 chapters, each written by a research worker in the field. The topics covered range from The Biochemistry of Human Blood Group Substances to Management of Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn. Each chapter is followed by a well chosen list of pertinent references. The chapter on Relative Importance of Blood Group Antibodies, in particular, provides a concise evaluation of those antibodies which are important and the reasons for their importance. It should be required reading for all people who use blood transfusion in practice. It is also highly recommended for those who desire an accurate and readable review of modern blood grouping.
